When choosing a fast meal, keep in mind that there is often more time involved in making it then you would originally think. Here are a couple of tips to help make it easier.

  • Go grocery shopping in advance. Trust me on this – you don’t want to be in the middle of meal prepping and find out you’re out of onions. It’ll make this process of fast and easy meal prepping into a long and drawn out process.
  • Make a weekly plan. Some days will require more meal prep than others, so if you plan out the meals entirely you can save the recipes that’ll take longer for when you’ll be home more.
  • Do some meal prepping on Sundays. Homemade meals end up including a lot of cutting meats and veggies. When you plan out your meals for the week, do the meal prep that you can early on. This means cut those veggies and that meat and throw it back in the fridge or freezer. This will make it much easier when it’s time to throw everything together.
  • Have a few fallback meals ready. Sometimes you end up having less time than you thought you would. If dinner is going to take a half-hour to cook but you literally only have twenty minutes to get it done, you can whip out some grilled cheese sandwiches if you have the ingredients ready to go.

Remember that ANY kind of meal prep can take a while to get used to. It’s hard and frustrating – but I promise it gets easier if you stick with it. It’ll make your life a whole lot easier, and it’ll help you hold yourself accountable to feed your family the things you WANT to feed them. I would not hold it against you if McDonald’s was on the menu every once in a while, but I don’t think any of us want it to be a frequent thing.
